Happy Birthday to Nani masi

It is Pappu masi's birthday today and after practising a lot through out the day, Vyom actually managed to say "Happy Birthday" to her on the phone!
His mum-mum has been extremely busy with work this past one week and he has complained to all who would listen - "mum-mum aw-fish" .
But Baba has been taking a lot of pix of him so that mum-mum can keep track of what "Baby Vyom" (which is what he calls himself) has been upto when she is at aw-fish.

These three are my absolute favourites

Baba puts me in the play-pen when he has to work

And takes me out in the park to play

And look what an अच्छा बच्चा I am after my dinner and bath

Hectic Week

Vyom's not been too well last 10 days, cold, flu, tummy uspets, have strained him (and his mamma's already frayed nerves). But when baba picks up the camera he's more than happy to pose.
Here is a selection from last week

Huh?

Us boys have a lot of fun hanging out together

But when my nose is runny, I need a cuddle from mum-mum too

Teddy needs a spoonful of medicine too

Mamma is so funny, especially when she is (trying to) sing

This is my romantic bengali poet look

Can I play now, please?

I need to sleep so that mum-mum can sleep too

All Grown Up

I haven't had the time to blog in the past few months what with work and moving into our (own) new apartment and all the teething problems associated with it. But today I suddenly realised that if I don't blog asap, this blog is going to get hopelessly outdated.

I mean, just looking at the pix I can see how much Vyom has grown in the past four months. He not only has so much more hair (I love the way they curl at the end) but in all other respects too, the way he runs around the place and plays with everyone, recognises people and things and actions and talks and talks and talks (his vocabulary almost doubles every week and he copies everything anyone tries to say). He loves to sing and dance and will put up his hand like a hindustani classical singer and burst out in melodies and words of his own. There is nothing very classical about the way he dances though. It is all Govinda-ala-re ishtyle like a pakka sadak-chaap majnu, as we hardly ever watch TV and definitely don't know anyone who dances this way, it is a mystery where he picked it up.

Any way, it is hard to put all of the last four months in one post, so, I'll just upload some pix and try to blog more regularly

The Party

The four most important things at a little boy's first birthday party
The Cake

(fresh fruit filling & fresh cream frosting from Sugar 'n' Spice )
The Baloons

(All 200 of them )
The People

(Big, small and medium sized)

The Presents

(Some truly innovative ones, you know what we mean ;-)

Vyom had a great party on 29th at Bal Bhawan in Cubbon Park. He was all dressed for the party in his little surfer dress with whales that pupsi masi had got for his first birthday party when he was only one month old. There were masis and mamas and mamis and didis and bhaiyas and nanoo and uncles and aunties , some Vyom was meeting for the first time, some he was seeing after a long time, but there were many of his favourite people there.

But Vyom, normally happy to see and be with everyone, decided that when there is so much choice available, it is good to stick to the known brands.

He had been practising blowing candles but a little boy needs a lot more lung power to blow the rotating singing candle that Doncy masi had got especially for him.

Mum-mum helped him cut the cake and Radhika mami made sure that everyone at Vyom's party got to have some.

Everyone signed on his first birthday bhow-bhow so that when Vyom is older and can not remember this party, the little bhow-bhow that his Vinod nanoo sent him could remind him of all his friends, big and small, who had gathered there to wish him.

Though he was quite tired at the end of the day, he had a great time and would like to thank everyone for the presents [ including the truly unique ones :) ] and SriG mama and Radhika mami for arranging for the decorations and helping mamma-baba with the planning. And if Doncy masi and Prakash Uncle hadn't got the plates and the cups and the spoons and the napkins, it would have been a very messy party indeed.

So Much To Say.. So Little Time

I have been very bad at blogging this year (I can't believe that there is no post at all in 2008) and now Vyom is just 5 days short of his first birthday it seems that there is so much that I should have recorded. Photographs, yes, but more than that the little things that he has been doing and discovering especially in the last couple of months.
Vyom will now clap his hands when he is happy. He claps to show his appreciation of food and toys and birds and mamma getting home after work. He points to things when asked about them and his vocabulary includes fish (of course), Le Billy from Paris (Pronounced in bangalore-style as lee-billy) , mamma, baba, thamma, राजा कट कट (a wooden king with jaws that go up and down), कबूतर (pigeon), कौवा (crow), चिडिया (birds), चंदामामा (moon), and most recently bow-bow (dog). His favourite is kabootar whom he calls out to , going "aa-aa" while opening and closing his hand. He calls out to other people and animals and things too but कबूतर is top of the pops. He tries to repeat the words we speak to him when he is the mood and thumps his chest when asked "व्योम किधर है ? "(where is vyom?).
And as of this week, Vyom has started walking. Earlier, he could cruise holding on to something and would walk 3-4 steps and then fall down to all fours and crawl (actually, there has to be a better word than crawl for this mode of locomotion because "crawl" means ' To move slowly on the hands and knees ' and Vyom is anything but slow, he can move faster than any of the bipedal adults running) Now, he can actually wobble across the room to pick up something from the floor and walk back. He still prefers to speed-crawl as he can go faster but he's walking more and more.
He has been traveling a lot too and I haven't posted his pix from his visit to Calcutta, Delhi (yes, again) and Mysore. Will do so in the next few days because then it will be BIRTHDAY TIME.
